This tour is fascinating journey of 9 days, through Greece the country that has the healthiest diet in the world and has been producing wine for thousands of years.

 

Day 1

Welcome to Athens! Our representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. The afternoon will be at your leisure to relax after your long journey. In the evening you’ll have a welcome dinner at a traditional Greek Taverna in the Plaka, the old part of Athens at the foot of the Acropolis. Dine on traditional Greek specialties and return to you hotel for overnight.


Day 2

Today you will have the chance to enjoy the highlights of Athens, the extraordinary city that attracted and inspired some of the greatest minds of ancient times. Visit the Acropolis Hill and view the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Pericles: the Parthenon, the Propylea, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. Then head downwards to the Agora, the ancient public square, center of the commercial and public life of the city. Drive past great monuments in the city center on your way to Constitution Square to the Parliament and the Evzones (National guards) in their picturesque uniforms guarding the monument of the Unknown Soldier. Afterwards head to the Presidential Palace and the marble Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. Visit the main Food Market on Athena’s Street and explore the spice and herb shops, the meat and fish markets and the fruit and vegetable stands.  This covered market has the characteristic atmosphere of a bazaar and a visiting it is always an interesting experience. We continue with a visit to one of the most renowned pastry-shops in Athens. A cooking class at the hotel will follow. Learn from one of the most famous chefs in Athens. Overnight will be at the hotel in Athens.


Day 3

Today we will travel to the Corinth Canal, which separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese. Continue to ancient Corinth, the once cosmopolitan city and visit the Temple of Apollo and the Agora. Then proceed to Mycenae, the Homeric city, "rich in gold" and capital of Agamemnon. Visit the Lion’s Gate, the Cyclopean walls and the Royal Beehive Tombs. After lunch, (on your own), at a local taverna in the modern village of Mycenae, we will continue on an interesting tour at a local winery where we will enjoy a premium wine tasting experience Taste different sorts of wine of very high quality "Moschofilero", "Viognier", "Grande Cuver" and "Grand Red Wine and others escorted with various kinds of cheese and finger food and local pies. Depart for the picturesque town of Nauplion, which is crowned by the mighty Palamidi fortress. Then continue on to Epidaurus to admire the area of the Sanctuary of Asclepius, god of medicine and to visit the Theater (4th century B.C.), famous for its remarkable acoustics. Return to Piraeus, the port of Athens and board a modern overnight ferry (Minoan Lines) to Crete. (Double occupancy, private facilities).


Day 4

After breakfast on board, disembark in Heraklion, the capital of Crete. Begin your day with a visit to the outstanding Archaeological Museum, the world’s finest storehouse of Minoan Art. There are twenty rooms with collections from palaces, private homes, tombs and caves. Later, drive to Knossos, the seat of the legendary King Minos. The palace is connected with thrilling legends, such as the Labyrinth with the Minotaur and the story of Daedalus and Icarus. This is the largest and best known of the presented Minoan palatial centers. Later visit a winery at Peza and sample some of the local wines before you head towards the traditional village of Archanes for lunch. Drive to your hotel in Heraklion for dinner and overnight.


Day 5

In the morning visit the picturesque village of Karousanos, where, you will visit one of the small family tavernas and get a first taste of the Cretan cuisine. Lunch and Cooking Demo: You will be shown the fine details and help cook the meal that you will eat for lunch.  Later visit a ceramic factory in the nearby village of Thrapsano that has the peculiar tradition in making and also throwing in the air the ceramic pots!!! Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel in Heraklion.


Day 6

Today you will board the high speed boat and head to the volcanic island of Santorini, the southernmost island in the Cyclades. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in the capital town of Fira. After check in you will drive to the magnificent village of Oia, which is famous for its unique sunsets. On the way you can see the characteristic vineyards of Santorini, where they braid the vine and give it the shape of a basket.  Visit a famous winery, where you see its various rooms and taste some of the best wines of Santorini. A short film presentation will inform you about the special grapes and different wines of the region. We will have free time in Oia before we head back to the hotel in Fira.


Day 7

Today you will sail in the Caldera of Santorini, the cavity that was created around 1500 BC when the volcano of Santorini erupted and the island exploded.  What remains are broken pieces of its rim encircling a deep lagoon. Sail across the Caldera and visit the volcano, where you can climb to the top and see the fumes that still emanate from it. This is an experience not to be missed! After the tour return to the hotel in Fira where a Cooking Demo will take place. Learn about the local specialties and enjoy a delicious dinner at one the lovely restaurants of the island overlooking the caldera. Overnight will be at the hotel in Fira.


Day 8

Transfer to the airport of Santorini and join your flight to Athens. Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. You will have some free time before you continue to the area of Plaka for “ouzo-tasting” at one of the famous ouzeris (ouzo places) in Athens. It is very popular because of its long history and charming ambiance. Farewell dinner at one of the most traditional tavernas in the Plaka (Old Town) area well known for its fine cuisine. Walk the narrow streets of the Plaka and enjoy a fantastic Greek meal at this typical tavern, which is frequented by both tourists and locals alike. Overnight will be at the hotel in Athens.


Day 9

Transfer to the airport for your flight. You fly home full of wonderful memories of many great experiences and culinary delights.
